About the Event

QuakeJon was started in 2004 as a small gathering of friends, deciding to run a 24hr solid LAN session, after leaving school. In six years QuakeJon has changed from the 7 people, 24hr session, to between 20 and 30 people, still within the confines of Jon's home, some of which usually hang around beyond the 24hr event for a few days, to continue the spirit of things.

QuakeJon is now Swindon's Premier Pan-European Multiplayer Gaming Event (hosted in Nottingham).

2010's event will be the third to take place away from Jon's Parents' in Swindon, staying in Nottingham with Jon and Phil for a third year. Jon and Phil maintain that Swindon isn't really up to the task of hosting it's own premier gaming festival, especially now that it has pan-european status (this year will see guests from more than one place in Europe!).

Games tend to be played on a 'suggest a game and play' format, since attempted organisation in previous years has failed abysmally, though it is likely this year that some tournaments may take place - most likely there will be Mario Kart and Wii Tennis championship titles to grab up at the very least.

A small ticket payment has been required for attendance since 2007. This is solely to cover food and drink costs and electricity for the event, since the organisers were left somewhat out of pocket after QJ2006.

Anyone can register on the event's forums, so if you like gaming, you should join the community and get chatting, and who knows, maybe you'll even want to see your way to coming to 2010's event!

About the Organisers

Three chief people have organised and run QuakeJon since it started in 2004.

Jon Couldridge

Jon had the original idea to run the LAN as he and his friends were leaving school, as a way to celebrate leaving and get together. The event is hosted currently at Jon's house (moving house when he does), and he provides all the network administration for the event, and a large amount of co-ordination of equipment for the event. That varies from cables, power extensions and even components to games, patches, and other useful stuffs.

Jon is also responsible for the website and forums administration.

Phil Berry

Phil is Jon's best friend, and has helped brainstorm things for the running of the event, particularly to do with games suggested for playing, and other organisational things. Jon is not very good at being organised. Phil also has taken it upon himself to arrange the refreshments provided at the 'Jon. As he himself puts it, he is the "Lord of All Things Culinary" and ensures we don't all resort to Pot Noodles and Red Bull exclusively. Phil and Jon have been working together on concept game designs for years, and still are.

Matt Fryett

Matt, a mutual friend of Jon and Phil, is the brains behind the operation. He's probably the brains behind everything ever. Matt's logical thinking and problem-solving abilities have significantly helped the organisation of the event from the actual organising point of view: Who can come when; How many of this and that we'll need and so on. When Jon's trying to get his head round something, Matt does it for him. Matt has also been a part of Phil and Jon's design work.

Many other attendees of the event have been very useful in helping things run smoothly, if only because of suggestions they've made, through the ever handy forums.

Random Nation

Random Nation represents Jon's collective web presence, ranging from Random Nation itself, which was (and will be again) a Joomla! portal for Jon and his friends' creative output including Jon's personal blog and of course the QuakeJon site and forums.

Cavalier UK Enterprises

Cavalier UK Enterprises is Phil and Jon's creative partnership, and provides an umbrella over their various creative ventures and plots, including QuakeJon.
